FWA - 05, 06, 07, 08, 09
RCFM - 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09
MFM - 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09
Total furry cons attended: 18
Planned attendance:
FWA 2010 - Likely (90%)
RCFM 2010 - Likely (80%)
MFM 2010 - Likely (80%)
AC or MFF 2010 (50%) - Hopefully one or the other, depending on finances. More likely MFF, due to the date of the con nicely filling the gap between MFM and FWA.
FC - Some day
It's tough for us to hit ones out of our normal circuit. MFF and AC are both 12-14hr drives, and flying to cons (required for FC, not driving 34 hrs) more than doubles the cost (we can attend both RCFM and MFM for less than the cost of 1 trip to FC).

I, for one, had been (privately) vocal about some of the hotel problems facing this con. They certainly weren't invisible to me as an attendee, and not to my surprise most others I spoke with had the same thoughts. It was to the point where Lenny and I were considering not returning after this year.
But the new hotel, the Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center, really wowed us. It has lots and lots of positives going for it:
- Private, meaning safer and less to no non-convention persons entering con areas/events
- Nice, roomy convention area and conference rooms
- Reportedly much safer area
- Lots of food places within walking distance
- A Wal-Mart Supercenter just down the road
- Nice, spacious, picturesque area around hotel
All of the main con space is on the first two floors, with hallways extending from each side leading to the rooms. Both of these floors are accessible through carpeted public staircases/ramps or via the elevators. There's another floor with two additional conference rooms above these floors only accessible by elevator. Here's the layout:
Layout Diagram
Also, as we were walking around, I was trying to get an idea of how well the con space would work, for things such as suiting, chatting, and just hanging out, since there is not as central of an area as the garden court in the old hotel. Honestly, I think it will work just fine. There are nice wide hallways, with lots of general sitting/hangout space all over, with tables, seats, etc around almost every turn. I couldn't find any good pics of the hallways on the site, but here's the lobby/registration area, just to give an idea:

So yeah, we're excited, and will absolutely be there next year. :)

Just got done with the parade. I think I heard a preliminary count of 165, way up from 101 of last year! Haven't heard any attendance numbers, but if you go by the fursuiter to attendee ratio from last year (about 7.45 to 1), it would mean somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200+ ppl. That sounds a little high, so we'll see.
After the parade and photo there was a large inflated obsticle course that they were allowing fursuiters to run through. Of course I had to give this a try :) So I jump in and bounce through the hole at the entrance, then try to climb the the ladder rungs to get to the next part. My fursuit feet were slipping right off of them like I was trying to climb a mountain of butter. After making many attempts, someone suggested I pull my feet off. Ok, I guess. So I tried that, and got the same results in socks. Ok, so those can come off too. NOW I can climb, yay. So I made it the rest of the way through, but I must say it was MUCH tougher than I thought it would be in suit. :)
We had a blast dancing and seeing all our friends again last night, and meeting a bunch a folks for the first time.

Now the driver wasn't the most friendly of people, he didn't say much, but was all too quick in lighting up a Marlboro and cranking up Korn on the radio. I didn't really mind, until some cars stopped kind of suddenly in front of us and he wasn't paying really good attention. So he proceeds to scare the shit out of us and has to swerve off the road to avoid hitting the cars in front. Yay for Alabama tow truck drivers =/
So we finally get my car to the shop, I talk to the head mechanic about what's going on with it, and I leave it. Unfortunately my parents were unable to loan me their car cause they had stuff to do, and having to work early the next morning, I decided to get a rental. So while we waited for them to pick us up, we looked at and tore up some of the stuff laying around the waiting room... Lenny will say more about that later :) So 5 hours after we started, we were finally on our way... heh fine way to start an afternoon lol.
I got my car back the next day, and it was the alternator. About $250 but that's about what I was expecting. It's actually running a lot better and smoother now.

FWA was a total relaxacon for me. I needed a break... and I took one. For the first time I didn't really go by the con schedule at a con, I just slept, and hung out, and relaxed, and if I had time to fit something in, I did. I tried to do way too much at this past MFM and wasn't going to make that mistake this time.
LJ friends I got to talk to or say hi to around FWA:

All I can say is... AWESOME. It was truly one of the coolest things I've seen. The combination of acting, puppetry, and music, along with the stunning visuals, just all blended together so well. It followed the entire story of the original movie, from start to finish, following it about 85-90%, with a few scenes changed here and there for continuity sake, and a few added to make it flow. They also worked in all of the music from the original soundtrack, and almost all of the music from Rhythm of the Pridelands, some sung natively and some sung translated, including breathtaking performances of 'He Lives in You' and a slightly changed version of it called 'They Live in You'. It lasted over 3 hrs with the intermission but seemed to just fly right by. And the good seats were sooooo worth the extra money, the actors and props came down the isle right beside you, and there were people singing not two feet away, and at certain points things literally flying over your head! It really made you feel like you were in the show. Not to mention the goodie bag, which contained a program, tlk cap, and tlk travel cup, yay!
I never thought TLK could be made into a live performance, at least not without sacrificing the animation and elements that made the movie what it was, but I was wrong. It was truly an experience worthy of the movie I love.
BTW real update coming soon, I promise! =)

( Cut because its usually long... )
It was an interesting con, I had a lot of fun but it didn't seem as much fun as last year, I think because I came in already exhausted with no energy, and maybe I tried to do a little too much, because I felt so busy the whole time but never got to do anything as much as I wanted or visit with a lot of the friends I had hoped to hang with. Too many names to name but it was great seeing everyone even if it was only briefly with some. Already missing you all :)

Work was hell over the weekend, with everyone making preparations for the coming storm. Fri-Sat-Sun I worked 10-12-12ish, so was a long weekend, but luckily was off Monday the day it was due to strike here. It started raining that morning, with the wind and bad stuff coming later in the evening. The eye shifted further East than its original track putting me in worse than expected weather/wind. Got through about half of it with power, then lost power Monday evening. Damage here was easily worse than Ivan and Dennis combined, but still got away with mostly downed trees, no serious damage. Was supposed to be at work at 6am on Tues, couldn't happen because there were 3 trees down across my road making travel out impossible. So I was stuck at home until late Tues evening, made it to work Wed where it was still super busy, and had no power until early Thurs in the AM when I was supposed to leave for MFM. This made getting ready for MFM challenging, but I still managed to get everything together and leave on time Thurs morning.
